Right off the coastline of the Atlantic, Fort Lauderdale Beach Park is a great place to go to relax, go for a walk, grab a bite to eat or exercise. For me, it was a chance to shoot around on the famous basketball courts!
The location for the filming of the Hickory Gym scenes in the 1986 film “Hoosiers” is a gem if you consider the history there. Built in 1921, it was originally constructed to be the home court for the Knightstown Panthers. The high school stopped playing games there in 1966 and the gym sat dormant until 1985 when the producers of “Hoosiers” discovered it for their movie.
Wedged in between two seemingly monotonous apartment buildings, is one of the most colorful and photographed basketball courts in the world. The Pigalle basketball court is the perfect example of art meeting sports and a “Must Hoop” court for any basketball player living near or traveling through the 9th arrondissement of Paris, France.
The City Wall Rooftop Court located in Dubrovnik, Croatia is one of the most photographed courts in the world. This “must hoop” court off the Adriatic Sea has become one of the leading and most sought-after tourist destinations and a rare opportunity for hoopers to play on this majestic court.
The rich history of the Arambagh Basketball Club and its outdoor Arambagh Basketball Court in Karachi, Pakistan is a “must hoop” when traveling through South East Asia.
Basketball courts don’t need to to be over complicated to bring hours of joy. All you need is ninety-four by fifty feet of hard court surface, and a hoop at either end to bring smiles to people’s faces. One such court that has brought players back to play after the upgrade is the “must hoop” court in Kinloch Park in St. Louis, Missouri.
Despite the formula being so simple, this has not stopped creative minds from around the world constructing some of the most unique courts we have ever seen. These feasts for the eyes have become national landmarks, and bucket list items when visiting certain countries.
