Wharton Field House opened in 1928 and was the home of the NBA’s Tri-Cities Blackhawks from 1946 to 1951. Legendary Hall of Fame NBA coach Red Auerbach was the Blackhawks’ head coach in 1949-50 before moving on to coach the Boston Celtics.

Continue reading “Must Hoop: Coleman Park in Morro Bay”Right off the coastline of the Atlantic, Fort Lauderdale Beach Park is a great place to go to relax, go for a walk, grab a bite to eat or exercise. For me, it was a chance to shoot around on the famous basketball courts!
The location for the filming of the Hickory Gym scenes in the 1986 film “Hoosiers” is a gem if you consider the history there. Built in 1921, it was originally constructed to be the home court for the Knightstown Panthers. The high school stopped playing games there in 1966 and the gym sat dormant until 1985 when the producers of “Hoosiers” discovered it for their movie.
